Tassimo - A Cup Of Kindness

Forget the fuss: all dads want is a cup of kindness for Father’s Day

Tassimo uncovers how material gifts are a thing of the past and all dads really want is a catch up over a cuppa

London, 18 June 2015: With father’s day just around the corner, nearly three quarters (70%) of children are splashing the cash on flashy gifts, despite a whopping 85% of fathers revealing that all they really want is a card and a catch up over a cuppa with their child on this special day.

In new research by Tassimo showed nearly a third of kids (28%) believe their dads would most like to receive a bottle of alcohol, closely followed by a gadget (22%) and tickets to football match (17%), neither which come cheap! Dads however just don’t care for these flashy things with 35% hoping for a visit from their child so they can catch up over a cuppa or even a simple phone call or text (33%) that shows that their kid is thinking of them.

When it comes to choosing the perfect gift kids are on average spending more than two hours and outlaying around £35 on their dads. However, regardless of their efforts their old man thinks that they are spending half of that with an average believing their children splashes out only around £18 on their present!

Staying in with the family is also the new going out as nearly two-fifths (37%) of dad’s revealed that their ideal father’s day is spent enjoying quality time with their child at home. A third of kids (33%) however believe their dad would most like to go out for lunch or dinner with family and friends; with a quarter (25%) thinking they’d enjoy a lie-in with breakfast in bed.

The study, carried out by leading hot beverage brewer company Tassimo, also revealed which topics make Britons most likely to turn to their father for a bit of advice, showing that dad really does know best. Six in ten Britons said that they go to their father to discuss finances, with a similar percentage turning to him for careers advice. Over one in five daughters, compared to sons (14%), are however more likely to confide in dad when it comes to friendships, though dads rule the roost for nearly a quarter of sons (24%) when seeking relationship advice. Perhaps unsurprisingly, only 3% thought that father knows best when it comes to fashion!

Toby Bevans, Brand Manager at Tassimo said “We’ve always believed that some of the most precious moments people share are over a cuppa and it’s nice to see that this is exactly what dads want this father’s day. Many good conversations happen over a hot drink and as the research has confirmed spending time with kids and doing so over a cuppa is clearly the best way to your dad’s heart. With Tassimo, kids can now also offer their dads something that gives them a wide range of delicious drinks for them to enjoy together.”
