Research from npower reveals parents spend upwards of £600 during summer holidays to keep their children happy, Npower has partnered with Mumsnet and celebrity mum Melanie Sykes to npower to pull together 20 of the best summer activities to help parents overcome summer slump.
Parents are spending upwards of £7.27 billion* each year on entertaining their children – and that’s just over the summer holidays. Mumsnet the UK’s largest network for parents - shows that parents are more stressed than ever trying to keep their children entertained over the break, with 67% wishing they could go on more weekends away as a family. The newly released figures show that factors such as no local facilities (25%), expense (48%) and no time (10%) stop them from doing the activities their children would want to do.
Melanie Sykes says: “Having personally struggled through several summer holidays with my children, I understand how tiring it can be and also the need to keep the children happy. That’s why I’m supporting npower, who are offering 2 for 1 as an opportunity to visit some great locations in Britain, putting the fun back in to the summer holidays for both the parents and kids.”
Mumsnet Editor, Sarah Crown, says ”This survey highlights the pressures parents face when trying to keep their children entertained over the summer holidays without breaking the bank. Holidays and day trips are expensive, and many parents lack the time or local knowledge to ferret out cheap activities within striking distance. At this time of year, we see lots of threads on which parents pool information on low-cost days out and swap tips on free things to do."
Warren Davey, Head of Brand and Advertising at npower says “npower is all about standing up for customers – and in particular for this season, empowering parents who find it tough through the summer holidays. Our campaign aims to inspire as well as support parents.
