9BAR has joined forces with SolarAid to take part in an amazing campaign called‘Pitch Dark Portrait’ which encourages people across the UK to take pen to paper and draw their self-portrait in the dark. The campaign highlights SolarAid’s ongoing mission to bring safe and affordable solar lamps to rural African communities where the only sources of light are dim and dirty.
The Pitch Dark campaign shows us how difficult it is to do things when you can’t see at night. 9BAR, one of SolarAid’s key partners and instrumental to this new campaign, has been supporting SolarAid since March 2015, with sales from every 9BAR providing a night’s clean, sustainable energy for families in Africa.
A variety of celebrities are supporting the campaign, and have shared their #PitchDarkPortraits across social media. Celebrities include models and television personalities Jodie Kidd and Jennifer Metcalfe, as well as Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer, Made in Chelsea star Louise Thompson, Rio 2016 gold medalist Ed Clancy and England rugby player Chris Robshaw, among others.
To get involved, there are four simple steps:
Step 1 - Cover your eyes or turn off the lights and draw your self-portrait on a piece of A4 paper
Step 2 - Take a photo of yourself / have someone take a photo of you holding up your #PitchDarkPortrait next to your face
Step 3 - Post the photo of you holding your #PitchDarkPortrait on Twitter and/or Instagram, including the hashtag #PitchDarkPortrait and nominate a couple of your friends/family to join in!
Step 4 - Text SEED09 £3 to 70070 to donate £3 and help light up Africa!
Any money raised will help SolarAid distribute affordable solar lights to families in rural Africa enabling them to save money while improving health, education and the environment. Furthermore, 42% of families’ savings is spent on food which increases the regular nutritional intake of each family.
